Yesterday brought news of a potential new bookshop in the old HWS Shorewood location, to be managed by HWS-alum Lisa Zupke, who I really like .
What are your thoughts? Talk of a "community" bookshop is always good, but wasn't HWS a community experience, by the admission of the folks wanting to open the new store?
Why would they succeed where HWS failed?
Is "new perspective" and a different funding model enough?
Are "competitive" prices enough to make up for the coffee clatch that never bought anything to pay for the space they occupied in the cafe? They were community, yes - but did they contribute to the financial health of a bookselling business?
